Naturalmente, el servicio de Diagnóstico por Imágenes (o simplemente Radiología, como comúnmente se le conoce) pide información a todos los pacientes que requieren el uso de MC para el estudio solicitado. Cuando los datos reportados por el paciente sugieren un riesgo aumentado es necesario tomar algunas medidas antes de realizarlo.

Cuándo «no es» 

Aunque hay muchos antecedentes que pueden parecer de preocupación, solamente los pacientes con historia previa de sensibilidad a los MC tienen riesgo aumentado de presentar problemas.

Personas con reacciones previas a mariscos o productos antisépticos de aplicación tópica con iodo no tienen ningún significado particular para los fines de un estudio radiológico con uso de MC iodado.

Cuándo es, ¿Qué se hace?

Si, en efecto, una persona necesita hacerse un examen de imagenología con MC y ha presentado anteriormente una reacción grave o no, debe consultar al especialista en Alergia e Inmunología Clínica para una evaluación. A veces se decide realizar pruebas con agentes específicos para determinar la seguridad o buscar alternativas.

Una vez realizada esta evaluación, se discuten las opciones con el médico radiólogo y el paciente y se planifica el procedimiento de modo de garantizar su seguridad.

De todas maneras, prevenir

Es importante recordar que todos los servicios donde se realizan estudios con contraste tienen cómo atender las pocas situaciones de emergencia que se puedan presentar. Recuerda que no todas las reacciones son graves, pero en caso de presentarse, el personal del servicio está entrenado para reconocer y atender oportunamente cualquier situación.
